Community Helpers Impacting People In Need
It has been a long time since our last email in February. Our community stepped up big time to help so many students and families during Covid. Below are the many ways we helped this past year. The biggest change was the number of rent and utility payments CHIP IN provided…..68. In a normal year, it was about 2-5. We worked with many local service agencies to help, including Batavia United Way, Chapelstreet Church, St. Vincent de Paul, Salvation Army, Lazarus House, Mutual Ground, & Batavia Township. We shared our resources, helped find furniture for other groups, shared cost of rent or utilities, and provided support. THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED HELP, SUPPORT AND INTEREST. WE COULD NOT HELP OUR STUDENTS AND FAMILIES WITHOUT YOUR GENEROUS SUPPORT! YOU ARE ALL THE COMMUNITY HELPERS IMPACTING PEOPLE IN NEED!
To support students/families in BPS District 101 in temporary housing situations or who are on free/reduced lunch program. To ensure that students who are facing financial obstacles have their needs met to be successful in school and to participate in the same programs/activities as all students.
Each BPS 101 District School has an "in-house" point person and a CHIP IN Batavia representative assigned to them. Our goal is to support children that have been pre-qualified by the school district by providing needed snacks, school supplies, necessities and any support/needs that give them the opportunity to thrive and learn during the school year. This is done while preserving dignity and anonymity. We work on a case by case basis, helping students and their families with individualized needs. We move fast and as we have grown, so has our network of groups, companies, churches, and friends who are always willing to help. We help students who are on free/reduced lunch and/or who are homeless. McKinney Vento is the federal government’s legal term for homelessness: Lack a fixed, regular and adequate night-time residence, which includes: sharing housing of others, living in hotels/motels/campgrounds, living in emergency/transitional shelters, cars, and parks.
