Prom Dress Collection and GIVEAWAY!

The Batavia Public Library will host CHIP IN Batavia’s 5th annual Prom Dress Giveaway on Saturday, March 17th, from 9am-4pm. There will be over 200 dresses on display, along with private changing areas, and accessories to choose from. We will also have a seamstress on hand, to help with alterations. All dresses will be given away free of charge to any girl from ANY school district, regardless of need. Our mission is to help students in need, but to make it simple and due to the prohibitive cost of prom, we want to offer all girls one free dress. Donations are appreciated and welcome, and will be used to help pay for tuxedo rentals and prom tickets. The Batavia Public Library is located at 10 S. Batavia Avenue, Batavia. 630-879-1393. We encourage girls to come with friends or family….it is a lot of fun, and the dresses are gorgeous.

The Library will also be the collection site for donated prom dresses and accessories, Feb. 1-March 16th at the Check Out Desk. Donated dresses should be in clean and good to excellent condition. We would also appreciate donations of accessories, including purses, jewelry and shoes. Tax donation letters will be available.

Last year, CHIP IN gave away over 165 dresses to students from Batavia, Mooseheart, St Charles, Geneva, Elgin, Aurora, Rosary, Jacobs, North Central College and Yorkville. Dresses were also given to Rotolo Middle School for the 8th grade dinner dance, and to the Batavia Interfaith Clothes Closet.

IN NEED OF STAND UP MIRRORS...can drop off at the library if we can borrow them, and pick them up Sunday afternoon, March 18th.  THANKS!

This is from Cindy Morgan, our CHIP IN liaison. She worked tirelessly to help the Shutkina’s and coordinated all your donations and help. Thank you Cindy!

Shutkina Update

We wanted to give an update to our very generous CHIP IN community on the Shutkina family. After considerable thought and prayers the mother, Lyubov, decided to return to Russia with the children. They returned to Moscow last week.
This was a very difficult decision for the family. Lyubov was able to obtain green cards for the entire family and had worked very hard to learn English and provide for her 10 children. This would not have been possible without the generous support of all of you. This community had an enormous impact on their life by helping with rent, bills, clothing, household repairs, toys, gifts and so much more. Lubyov will be forever grateful for the support she received from our wonderful community. The children will be greatly missed in our school and community.
Thank you to everyone that helped with his or her time, money and compassion. We wish them the best of luck and happiness for their future.

Holiday Summary
Thank you to everyone who donated at the holidays:114  bags of household items, candy and toys for the Batavia Woman's Club stockings...all for The Batavia United Way Adopt a Family program.  It was a huge success!

SHOP WITH A COP was a great event - 20 children and their siblings got to Shop With a Cop (or Firefighter!). Thank you so very much to Officer Chris Pothoff and his wife, all the police and firefighters, Walmart, Anne Rudd and all her volunteers and Amy Nelson.

Batavia High School and Aurora University graduate Jackie Rakers made the holidays extra special for five BPS101 families. Jackie,  the educational programs and volunteer coordinator at Abbey Farms in Batavia, worked with Abbey Farms to donate Christmas trees to five BPS101 families in need. Additionally, Jackie coordinated with local vendors and individual donors to make sure each family had a tree stand, tree skirt, lights, ornaments, several gifts for under the tree, and gift cards from Jewel Food Stores.

Thank you Jackie, Abbey Farms, and all of the companies and individual donors who came together to brighten five homes in our community this holiday season.

Family Move from Homelessness

Shortly before the holidays,  CHIP IN, together with St Vincent de Paul, and donations/pickup/delivery from ReHome, our awesome community, several State Champion football players, Batavia United Way Adopt A Family, Furniture Dollies, and Abbey Farms, and a bunch of fabulous volunteers, we decorated a new home for a family to call their own. A family of 5 moved into a completely furnished home to call their own.
